Tonight at Kumbrabow State Forest fire pits are blazing at four out of the five cabins. A merry throng sits huddled around each raising their glasses, telling jokes and stories. My fire pit is dark tonight but I imagine an evening photoshoot with Brandy and family that wraps up with gathering—not too close during these Covid times— around the fire pit, the kids hunting for sticks then roasting marshmallows. For now, I only know where Brandy lives and I don’t even have her phone number. My fantasy remains a fantasy. Who will join me round my fire pit on this beautiful night brimming with stars and a fresh crescent moon? It may be just my dog, Simba and me. Nights alone—a downside of being an itinerant photographer.
